Artist Residency
Thoughtful, Curriculum-Connected Art Experiences for Schools.
Bug & Bean Art Studio offers custom-designed artist residencies, designed and led by teaching artist Kirstin Giles Lenfesty BFA, for Calgary Board of Education schools that support curriculum outcomes while centering creativity, process, inquiry and student voice.

Residencies are flexible, collaborative and designed to integrate meaningfully into the school environment, whether for a single classroom, multiple grades or a whole-school experience.
What Schools Can Expect
Curriculum-connected & Age Appropriate
Residencies are thoughtfully planned to support Alberta Program of Studies outcomes while remaining developmentally appropriate and engaging.

Process-Led Learning
Students explore materials, concepts and ideas through guided invitations rather than step by step projects, encouraging critical thinking, experimentation and self-expression.

Flexible Formats
Residencies can take many forms, including:
-
Single-day or short workshops
-
Multi-week classroom residencies
-
Large-scale murals, collaborative projects or installations.

Can be adapted for:
-
Individual classrooms
-
Grade-level cohorts
-
Cross curricular connections
-
School wide initiatives

Collaborative Planning
I work with educators to design a residency that aligns with curriculum outcomes, classroom needs and school culture.

On-site Facilitation
As a mobile art studio, I bring materials and facilitate sessions on site, supporting students through exploration, making and reflection.

Professional Communication
Clear planning, timelines and expectations are established in advance to ensure a smooth and well-supported experience for staff and students.

Meaningful Outcomes
Residencies may result in individual student work, collaborative pieces or school-wide installations. Always grounded in process and learning.
